My Weekly Soundtrack: 8-20

When I first started doing this, it was a list of songs that had been stuck in my head at one point or another in the week. It soon shifted to me just picking random songs. I did this because some songs stay stuck in my head for weeks at a time and I didn’t want to keep having the same songs on them. I also threw in a few themed lists. This week, I thought I’d go back to the beginning and just post songs that have been stuck in my head.

I hope you enjoy these as much as my mind apparently does.

My Weekly Soundtrack 6/11

Hola amigos. Today is Tuesday. That means it is time for me to force you into listening to my music. Ok, well I can’t actually force you into listening to it. You can choose not to play the songs that I pick. I just like to pretend I have some sort of power over you.
While I have your attention, you should go check out this awesome post by BrainRants. It’s all kinds of amazing. Onto the music!

My Weekly Soundtrack 6/4

Welcome, my friends, to the Revis Edgewater Music Channel. In this week’s episode of My Weekly Soundtrack, we’ll be hearing music from a number of different bands, most of whom play instruments of some kind. What? They all play instruments? Who knew?

As always, don’t forget to go over to My Rabbit Hole Trips and check out Alice’s playlist. She’s 33 grams of awesome, so get on over there.

Anyways, to start off this episode, we have Thousand Mile Wish, by Finger Eleven.

My Weekly Award Show Soundtrack Post Thing

Did any of that make sense? No? Oh, well. I’m continuing on anyways.

Normally, I accept awards on my blog, but since I’m combining this one with my weekly soundtrack (just like Alice stole from me)/YouTube Tuesday post, I decided to go ahead and do it here. The award I’m accepting comes from Twindaddy. I’d post a link to his blog, but you’re already on it. Ok, now onto the award.

Another Musical Mystery

Metallica’s Black Album (it’s actually named Metallica, but it’s called the Black Album because of the cover) came out in 1991. Featuring songs like “Enter Sandman”, “The Unforgiven”, “Wherever I May Roam”, and “Nothing Else Matters”, the Black Album thrust Metallica into the mainstream. It also opened them up to criticism from heavy metal fans claiming that they sold-out with this record. This criticism has always bothered me, especially since I’m still hearing it today, 20 years after it was released.

Some said they sold-out because the music wasn’t as hard as on their previous albums. I disagree. With the exception of Nothing Else Matters, all of the songs were as heavy as their previous stuph. The only difference is song length. Their first 3 CDs averaged about 7 minutes per song. On the Black Album, it averaged about 5. The only reason people were saying they sold-out was because it was popular in the mainstream.

Even if they did sell out, however, so what? I would bet money that every person who whined about them selling out would do so themselves in a heartbeat. Careers in the entertainment field (musicians, actors, or sports figures) aren’t guaranteed, so you have to cash in as much as you can, as quickly as you can, because you never know when it might go away. GET OVER IT ALREADY PEOPLE!!!!!
