Through the hourglass of time
My face brightly shines
In a picture in your mind
Minutes pass by
A small increment of time
Not enough to notice
That I’m not by your side
Hours go by
As the clock counts the time
My voice cries out to you
When it’s comfort you seek to find
Days slide by
More moments lost to time
Life tries to separate us
No matter how hard I’ve tried
Weeks drive by
I still can’t find the time
We’ll get together soon, I swear
When I escape the grind
Months swoop by
Still searching for our time
Missing me has faded for you
Soon it will have died
Years fly by
In an avalanche of time
Memories of me are now gone
As my face has faded away
Decades shoot by
No one saw the time
Someone asks if you know me
“No,” you say, “who is he?”
It’s so easy to lose and forget. Lovely poem, Revis
Thank you, Elyse. Unfortunately, this is an all too familiar story.
Time… A weird thing I still can’t deal with, because of effects like the one in the poem you wrote.
Time is enigmatic. That’s why I refuse to write any time traveling stories. There’s way too many loopholes to consider.

My favorite subject and great poetry,
Thank you.
Lovely poem……The ever green topic transformed into beautiful words, wisely 🙂 Love it xx
Thanks!
“The ever green topic..” Nice! Was that a Robert Frost reference?
Wonderful work, Revis.
Thanks, Hook.
This reminds me of the song “The Cat’s in the Cradle.” Great poem!
Thanks, Tooter!
lol
That was awesome. And immensely sad. But the weird thing is that I was watching ‘As Time Goes By’ on BBC America as I read it.
Thanks! I was looking for the one person who watched BBC and I found him.
I watch it all.
Lovely poem. Funny as how children we wish for it (time) to speed up, only to end up crying out in disbelief when it actually does.
Yeah. If we knew how life would be, we’d have definitely stopped wishing to grow up so soon.
[…] It got to the point to where it was a couple of months in between seeing each other. His second son was a month old before I was able to see him for the first time. This part of our friendship together is one of the things that inspired me to write this. […]
