Pissing Off Fanboys

I’m going to say a couple of things that are probably going to upset some fanboys. I don’t care, though. They’re things that I need to say.

The first thing is a hypothetical that deals with the new Star Wars movie. I don’t know what direction they’re taking it in. From what I’ve heard from the guys at work, they’re going to completely ignore the expanded universe. So, none of the novels, comics, or video games happened. That would be 33 grams of suck.

If they decide to keep some of it, however, I have an idea for a scene I’d like to see in the new movie. It is this scene that will probably piss the fanboys off. The scene I want to see needs them to have the Jedi Academy in place. I want the scene to play out where it shows Luke walking a young Jedi through the Academy. They go through and, in the background, it shows older Jedi teaching younger Jedi things. Then, when they get to the last classroom, you hear a teacher giving a lecture. The older Jedi giving the lecture will then be interrupted by an unruly student.  Suddenly, the camera shifts to the teacher who raises his fists in the air as he yells the child’s name.

The teacher will be played by William Shatner, and the child’s name will be Khan.

That would be hilarious.

Now, onto the second thing: I don’t get all the Boba Fett love.

When I was younger, I used to be part of the “Boba Fett is awesome” club. Now, after seeing the movies a thousand times each, and growing up slightly, I don’t understand why he’s so popular.

Boba Fett has been a fan favorite since the original trilogy came out the first time. So, originally, all of the Boba Fett love started in those three movies. If you look at what he did in just those movies, his popularity makes no sense. He wasn’t even in Episode 4 (unless you count the 2 second cameo in the Special Edition….which I don’t). In Episode 5, what does he do? He follows Han and the gang from the Star Destroyer to Cloud City…..that’s it.

He doesn’t capture them. Vader does that. He doesn’t freeze Han so he can take him to Jabba. Vader does that too. So, all he really did was rat them out to the Empire, shoot at Luke a couple of times, and fly away with a frozen Han. Those aren’t really accomplishments worthy of admiration.

In Episode 6, what does he do? He gets beaten by a guy who he has tied up. Then, he gets thrown into a pit by a guy who can’t see…..that’s it. Those are also not accomplishments worthy of admiration.

If you think about it, when based solely on the original trilogy, all Boba Fett had going for him was cool looking armor. To me, that’s not enough to justify all of the love that is thrown his way. Boba Fett is just not as cool as everyone make him out to be.

  1. El Guapo says:

But the Robot Chicken treatment of Boba Fett was hilarious.

I’ll be happy if the new movies pay homage to the originals, but are good stories on their own.

  2. 1jaded1 says:

William Shatner. That would be SO hilarious. I never understood Boba Fett.

  3. Twindaddy says:

I still think it’s stupid that in the EU Boba Fett escapes the Sarlac. That is beyond dumb to me.

  4. Sadly, fans don’t always come with common sense. Could have something to do with the word “fan” in this sense being a shortened form of the word “fanatic”…

    • That’s why I don’t consider myself a fanboy. While I like things like Star Wars, I can be objective about them. Fanboys, however, will blindly defend the object of their fascination.
